At the end of Attack on Titan, the world was finally saved and the Titans were no more. The threat to humanity’s survival was eradicated and the world could start living peacefully for the first time in thousands of years.
Eren Yeager's dream came true, granting his people long-desired freedom, but at a great cost. With eighty percent of humanity lost, the surviving twenty percent started rebuilding the world, aiming for peace and prosperity.
What Happened to Paradis in the Mid-Credit Scenes
In the Attack on Titan's ending, the diplomatic team of the remaining Eldian and Marleyan soldiers led Paradis Island towards friendship among all nations, replacing war with unity. On the other end, after killing Eren, stopping the curse of the Titans, and freeing Ymir Fritz, Mikasa chose a quiet life, building a family of her own.
Furthermore, at the end of Attack on Titan's final season special 2, Paradis Island underwent rapid modernization, transforming from a historic town to a developed metropolis. They built tall buildings, roads for vehicles, and made much-needed upgrades to their military weaponry. The military adopted a new system and motto, drawing inspiration from one of Eren's most famous quotes: “If you win, you live. If you lose, you die. If you don’t fight, you can’t win!”
However, the formation of this army indicates Eldia’s uncertainty and fear of the future. The Yeagerists ensured their military readiness, anticipating potential threats from nations affected by the Rumbling. Despite supporting Eren, they acknowledged the chance of repercussions for his actions, foreseeing a desire for revenge from the affected nations.
Centuries later, that day arrived, and Paradis Island faced oppression again. An unknown military power launched a devastating assault on the now ultra-modern, futuristic city. Rockets rained down with a force reminiscent of Eren's Rumbling, resulting in the destruction of Paradis Island in an instant.
The Destruction of Paradis Island
The world within Attack on Titan was never destined for lasting peace. Despite the series concluding on a somewhat hopeful note, that happiness didn’t last forever. Eren's colossal act of world destruction was anticipated to have consequences, resulting in the eventual downfall and destruction of Paradis Island.
Hajime Isayama ended the Attack on Titan anime and manga series with uncertainty about whether the Eldian-Marley war resumed or a new global force emerged. Everything that Eren did caused global chaos, making anyone a potential enemy - an enemy that delivered Paradis' inevitable downfall.
