10 Rarest Pokemon in Pokemon Go (That You Can Still Get)

Pokémon Go is a GPS-based Augmented Reality game developed by Niantic and released in 2016. If you played it when it was new like I did, you probably think the rarest Pokémon in the game are Tauros, Mr. Mime, Farfetch'd, and Kangaskhan. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but things have changed quite a lot since the new generations of Pokémon were released into the game! Let's look at ten super rare Pokemon that you can still obtain in 2023 without trading!
Salazzle
Salazzle is a regular Pokémon obtainable in Pokémon Go, but it's definitely still one of the rarest pokémon in the game. Of course, its pre-evolution can only be obtained by hatching 12 km eggs. Collecting these eggs requires you to battle with Team Go Rocket Leaders, which is a whole process in itself. Once you've collected the eggs, hatching Salandit still isn't guaranteed. It's actually one of the rarest pokémon available in those eggs. However, this isn't the end. You'll need a female Salandit in order to evolve it into a Salazzle, as well as 50 Salandit candies to do so. This means you'll probably need to hatch a handful of Salandit before you can finally evolve one, which could easily take you a couple dozen 12km eggs in total. Talk about a workout!
Kommo-o
Jangmo-o, the first evolution of Kommo-o, can be found in a few ways. It can be seen in the wild, as well as through Daily Adventure Incense, although your chances are pretty slim. It's one of the rarest Pokémon in Pokémon Go. However, it can also be obtained through 10km eggs. However, not only is it one of the rarest Pokémon available in those eggs, you'll need a whopping 125 candies to evolve it to it's final evolution.
Krookodile
Like Salandit, Sandile can be found in 12 km eggs. Fortunately, you're not looking for any gender of Sandile in particular, but you will need 125 candies to make a Krookodile. Luckily, they aren't among the rarest Pokémon in the 12 km egg group. In fact, you may hatch enough Sandile to make a Krookodile on the journey to obtaining your Salazzle!
Haxorus and Goodra
Haxorus and Goodra are essentially in the same boat as Kommo-o. It seems that the highly coveted Pseudo-legendary Pokémon have all been made quite difficult to obtain. Perhaps that was to make finally getting one even sweeter. Axew requires 125 candies to evolve into Haxorus, and it's a moderately rare hatch from 10 km eggs. However, it's also a very rare spawn in the wild, so use Pinap berries if you happen to find one in the wild. That'll save you some time grinding for the candies for your Haxorus! Goodra is the same story, except that it has one extra method of obtaining it, which is the Research Breakthroughs. However, it also has another evolution requirement, which is the Rainy Lure Module. This costs 180 PokéCoins if you don't already have one.
Carracosta and Archeops
The generation 5 fossil Pokémon are quite rare as well. Both Archen and Tirtouga can be found in the wild, but it's barely even worth looking for them, even with the Daily Adventure Incense. You're much better off hatching a ton of 10 km eggs, as they're fairly common there and their final evolutions only need 50 candies. Speaking of 10 km eggs, if you're searching for a Haxorus, Goomy, or Kommo-o, you'll probably be in good shape to get some of these along the way!
Noivern
Noibat, like Axew, comes from 10 km eggs. In fact, it's at the same rarity. The difference is that for some insane reason, you need 400 Noibat candies to evolve one into a Noivern. That's not a typo. Not 40, 50, or 125. You need four hundred. Noibat had a community day on the 5th of February, but if you missed that, it looks like you're walking to work all next week to find enough Noibats!
Cofagrigus and Runerigus
Cofagrigus and Runerigus evolve from Yamask and Galarian Yamask respectively. It takes 50 candies for either evolution. So, what makes this one rare again? Oh yeah, that's right, you can only get Yamask during the Halloween event. If you aren't playing during Halloween when they make Yamask available, you're just not gonna get one. Of course, unless you trade for it!
Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit
The Lake Guardians from generation four are legendary Pokémon that can be found in the wild. Well if they appear in the wild, even if it's a rare wild spawn, how rare could they possibly be? Well, Uxie only spawns in Asia and the Pacific, Mesprit in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India, and Azelf in the Americas and Greenland! Crazy, huh? In truth, you can sometimes find them in five-star raids and by using Remote Raid passes, as well as third-party apps like Poké Genie. However, let's be real here, if traveling half way across the planet and using third-party software are viable options, these things are some of the rarest Pokemon in Pokemon go.
Sigilyph
Another region specific catch, Sigilyph, can only be found in regions like Greece and Egypt. This is much like the original region specific Pokémon such as Tauros and Mr. Mime. However, Greece and Egypt seem like oddly specific places for this rare Pokémon to reside, making it less likely that you know somebody from these places. Maybe it's just a remnant from their ancient past!
Comfey, Relicanth, and Klefki
There are a handful of other regionally exclusive Pokémon, some of which can be found in a large variety of locations, and some that are oddly specific. Comfey, for example, can only be found in the US State of Hawaii. Relicanth can only be found in New Zealand and some Oceanic islands, and Klefki is native to France.
Event Only Pokémon
In addition to these, there are tons of Event Only Pokémon such as Mythical Pokémon that cannot be obtained at the moment. Some of these include:
Mr. Rime: The rarer of the two in its evolution line, as Galarian Mr. Mime was also made available in a Special Research Quest.
Unown: These have been given out a couple of times during special events. There are at least 26 variants, one for each letter in the alphabet, which makes this Pokemon feel even more rare.
Armored Mewtwo: Given out in 2019 and 2020, it has yet to be available since. It can only be obtained in trades.
Clone Pokemon: Cloned versions of Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Pikachu were given out in 2020 for Pokémon Day, but are now only available via trading.
Mow Rotom: Given out in Pokemon Go Fest in 2022 in Berlin. It can now only be obtained in trades.
Overall, there are a ton of rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go, and of course we couldn't name them all! There are at least a dozen that are harder to find particular forms of such as Furfrou and Vivillon, as well as plenty of legendaries and mythicals we didn't discuss. There are even some variants of fan-favorites that wear costumes. These costume Pokemon such as a Snorlax with a Cowboy Hat are some of the rarest!
