Willkommen (Welcome) to Deutchland (Germany), a central European country known for its breathtaking beauty and hard-working people! The capital is Berlin, a busy, modern city of museums, art galleries and industry.
Germany is a land of palaces and castles. In Bavaria, you'll find the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, which was one of the major influences for the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park in the United States.
I live in a wooden timber house in the Black Forest. It looks just like a gingerbread house, frosted with snow all winter long! The Schwarzwald (Black Forest) gets its name from trees that grow so closely together, the sun can barely shine through!
Germans love to cat! We fill our plates with warst (sausage), sauerkraut (pickled cabbage), and knödel (dumplings). Favorite German pastries are strudel and Black Forest cake (chocolate cake). Wunderbar! (Wonderful!)
At harvest time in Munich, we celebrate Oktoberfest with brass compah bands and traditional German costumes. The one I'm wearing has a full skirt, a blouse with golden trim, a crisp white apron and shawl. My braids are wrapped in circles just like my grandmother used to do! Men wear lederhosen (leather shorts with suspenders) and feathered hats.
Our favorite sports include fussball (soccer), skiing, and mountain climbing. When you're hiking in the Bavarian Alps, look for a pretty white wildflower called edelweiss, a symbol of pride and happiness.
Be sure to take home a German cuckoo clock as a souvenir... as well as happy memories of my beautiful country! Auf winderschen! (Good-bye!)
