Nice to find an alternative to Amazon/eBay where you can't trust purchases of particular cards or re-direct you to sellers with higher Shipping costs. Poggers has a nice selection and cards/toys came in good condition quickly.

I played with the base game and with the expansion separately, to see whether or not I thought the expansion was good, and frankly - it is. The expansion has two things going for it:
One is that it lets you play with 3 more players, increasing the possible player count to 9, which is a great number for a party game. The alternative is buying two copies of the base game, which would cost you about $5 more and nets you one more player (10 players total if you get two base games). So it's a value expansion on that aspect.
The other thing going for it is the mechanics it adds, which specifically are the parrot and monkey cards. The base game's wild cards are the bomb cards which turns one of your ships into a trap. This expansion adds monkeys which are like that mechancic but even more lethal. Rather than blowing up both ships, you can give your opponent -5 treasure instead, (or up to -8 if you have one of the new captain cards in play). Then there are the parrot cards which I think add tons of depth. You basically copy the stats of the front of the ship, so you can strategize what you want to reveal even more.
The game added some extra depth that is appreciated. It makes the game like 1% more complicated, but you get little cheat sheets that you can remind yourself how the monkeys and parrots work, so it kind of counteracts that.
Overall, it's definetly worth it on the player count addition alone, but the extra parrots and monkey cards add way more enjoyment to the game, so it'd say it's a staple expansion. Also you can actually play this expansion standalone for up to 3 players. The box is the size of a deck of cards, so you could just put this game in your pocket as a "just in case" game for a hang out for up to 3 people.
I'd reccomend this for sure 10/10
The game is pretty fun, I've played it a handful of separate times at this point and each time I've played has been a blast. The part I love the most about the game is easily the fact that you literally build the ship with the cards. I think it's such a creative concept for a game. I've grown up playing pirate games so to literally have a pirate ship battle with someone else is just so cool to me. I mean you can literally put your ships next to eachother and have a battle. (making cannon sounds during a battle are optional but recommended).
It's really easy to learn - basically one quick read of the instructions and you're good to go. I figured out how to play within 2 minutes as did everyone I played with. It's not complicated, just draw 6 cards, each person plays 3 cards, draws 3 cards, repeat four times, then you each take turns attacking eachothers' ships.
Although simple, it seems like there's a lot of strategy that is possible, especially when pairing with the retreat mechanic. So it's basically a great game for everyone, both with a low level of experience playing games and plenty of enjoyment for those with a deep understanding of games. If you pair it with the expansion, you get 9 players (but you can also pair two copies of the base game together to get 10 players), so it really is an awesome game for parties. You can also fit all the expansion cards within the base game box, meaning it's easy to store - it's a well designed game for sure.
I think the bomb mechanic adds some cool depth and definitely causes some salty and hilarious moments and allowing the person with the most revealed treasure to go first also adds some depth and strategy.
I also love the extra flavor of adding the pirate phrase stuff, although goofy, it just adds to the fun element.
Overall it's a beautifully simple game that I would honestly recommend anyone to play. Definitely a stable for anyone's party game arsenal. I'd suggest getting the expansion since the monkey and parrots adds a bit more depth to the game that is strongly appreciated.
10/10 game for sure
Gift for my daughter- she loves it
I played this with my girlfriend and both had a lot of fun while playing it. She doesn't like playing games that are competative/versus because I frankly win too often when 1v1, so we like playing games that are co-op (like this one). It really is a cooperative game as we both were each thinking a lot and collaborating on trying to win. We even did cheat a little while playing but still lost - it wasn't challenging in stressful kind of way, but rather challenging in a fun kind of way. A lot of the difficulty is in a few of the mechanics being a bit random, but in a way where you can calculate your odds and guarentee victory despite it (kind of like Poker or something).
We worked together and built our army and fought through each day / level until the last day (there are 5 days in the game). We felt pretty confident about winning, but had a hilarious last battle where I basically set it up for my girlfriend to win on her attack, but she got greedy and wanted win the bonus level (defeat the Sheriff of Nottingham) and as a result, whiffed and didn't even rescue Robin Hood. It was pretty funny and I am fondly remembering playing it as I write this.
I really enjoyed the min-maxing of my army and the stats versus the enemies on the board so we could defeat the bonus quest, and my girlfriend really enjoyed the character names and trying to figure out what they meant (a lot of the character names are puns, like "Waldew Respect" and "Tim Burr."
Although we didn't even win, I can easily see this being a go to board game for game nights. The difficulty can be adjusted from the base level, (which if you don't get greedy, you can definetly win without too much difficulty), to adding more difficulty with the bonus level, and then there are extra challenge cards too to make the game even harder than that. Frankly there's a surprising amount of value here as well as replayability when considering the RNG between set up (each time you play is different), the RNG of attacking face down cards, and trying to beat the different challenges.
Highly reccomended 10/10
Love the design. Unfortunately there are unseen cracks in the mug design, ALL OVER the mug. The first pour of coffee it leaked all over the place.
Nicely packed, on time delivery
Got my order, well packaged and ahead of schedule as well, very pleased
