About the Fandom
Kinnikuman is a Japanese manga series created by Yudetamago (a pen name for the duo of Takashi Shimada and Yoshinori Nakai), which first began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1979. The manga focuses on the adventures of Kinnikuman, a bumbling, underdog superhero who is the heir to the throne of Planet Kinniku. Despite his lack of skill, Kinnikuman becomes a hero, fighting alongside his friends and fellow Justice Chojin to defend Earth and the universe from a series of powerful foes. Over time, the series evolved into a major franchise, spawning multiple anime adaptations. The first anime, Kinnikuman (1983), followed the manga's plot, depicting Kinnikuman's journey as a fighter in the Chojin Olympics and his battles against powerful antagonists like the Devil Chojin. The anime ran for 137 episodes and solidified Kinnikuman's place in Japanese pop culture.
The franchise continued to grow with various anime adaptations, including the more recent Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc in 2024, which commemorates the 45th anniversary of the series. This new anime adaptation covers the Perfect Origin Arc from the 2011 manga and focuses on a new tournament where the various factions of the chojin world—Justice, Devil, and Perfect Chojin—compete for dominance. The first season of this adaptation aired from July to September 2024, with a second season set to follow in January 2025. The plot centers on Kinnikuman's return to Planet Kinniku to assume the throne, only to face a new threat from the Perfect Large Numbers, a faction challenging the peace treaty between the chojin factions. Kinnikuman must once again fight alongside his allies to protect his kingdom and prove himself the rightful ruler. In addition to its manga and anime adaptations, Kinnikuman has become a popular franchise with a wide range of merchandise, including action figures, toys, collectible items, and gifts, allowing fans to own representations of their favorite characters and moments from the series.
