Blue Exorcist’s Kyoto Saga (second season) may yet be its best, especially as it adapts the manga’s canon material over the first season, which opted for animation over story. But the currently released 4 or 5 seasons really do cement the words of Anton LaVey on the relationship between the devil and the church.
Just like a few other Shounen stories of an underdog main character with supernatural abilities, Rin Okimura’s life as the powerful orphan/son of the devil beautifully captures the chaos of identity, faith, and destiny colliding. His journey isn’t just about fighting demons; it’s about confronting the one within, proving that even the son of Satan can burn bright with purpose, defiance, and a strangely divine sense of hope.

Here is one of the few sad and supernatural anime series produced by A-1 Pictures, aside from Erased and Black Butler.
Some years ago, the young Meiko Honma met a tragic end, leaving her close circle of friends deeply affected and ultimately leading them to grow apart. Ten years later, Meiko returns as a ghost, visible only to the gang's former leader and shut-in, Jinta. Her only wish is for Jinta to grant her final request, enabling her to transition to the afterlife. However, with no recollection of what that wish entails, it falls to this teenager to reunite with his old friends and uncover what will bring his cherished companion the peace she seeks. Amidst a whirlwind of unexpressed emotions, can this group reignite their friendship and aid the spirit of a dearly departed friend?

People often say Hellsing Ultimate is a good anime, but that’s an understatement. It is one of the best supernatural anime of all time! It is great! Everything about it screams perfection: the brutal action, the gothic animation, the sheer chaos of vampires, ghouls, and soldiers colliding in glorious mayhem. Every explosion, every scream, every scene dripping with blood feels like dark art in motion.
There’s something thrilling about Alucard’s unholy power, the Major’s manic speeches, and the clash between the Vatican, Nazis, and monsters of the night. It’s savage, stylish, unapologetically over the top, and you can’t get enough of it. Hellsing Ultimate doesn’t just entertain; it engulfs you in a storm of violence, madness, and elegance that’s nothing short of breathtaking.

Here is another iconic and spectacular supernatural anime series that should go on your watchlist. Ever wished for divine help with your problems? In Noragami, that’s exactly what Yato offers, for he is a self-proclaimed “Delivery God” who’ll solve your troubles for a small fee of five yen. But Yato isn’t your typical deity. Far from revered, he’s a wandering god with no shrine, no followers, and a dream of one day being worshipped.
His life turns unexpectedly when he crosses paths with Hiyori Iki, a kindhearted high school girl whose selfless act of saving him forever alters her existence. Together, they navigate a world where gods crave recognition and humans seek purpose. Balancing humor, heart, and supernatural action, Noragami explores faith, friendship, and the fragile line between mortals and the divine.

Mononoke is an original anime series that has a sparse cast of characters and a wide array of supernatural creatures, including almost all the creatures found in Japanese mythology. We’re talking about the regulars you’re already familiar with, and even rare ones like Mononoke/Ayakashi, Youkai, Bakeneko, Zashiki-Warashi, Umibozu, and some faceless ghost spirits.
The anime unfolds across five distinct arcs, each spanning a few episodes and centered on a unique spirit. Though it may sound like a typical monster-of-the-week setup, every story feels fresh and original. And each arc delivers unexpected twists and revelations that keep you captivated right up to the finale. To top it off, the animation style and character designs are weird, but it keeps things interesting.

The 2001 Fruits Basket anime was sweet but incomplete, as it adapted only part of Natsuki Takaya’s manga and leaned heavily into comedy, softening the darker, emotional layers of the story. The 2019 reboot, though, is the real deal: beautifully animated, faithful to the manga, and emotionally explosive from start to finish. It dives deep into the characters’ traumas, healing, and love, giving the Zodiac curse the haunting, supernatural weight it truly deserves. What makes the complete anime and manga series such a great one isn’t the magic alone; it’s how that magic mirrors human pain, forgiveness, and the quiet power of kindness.

Okarun and Momo Ayase couldn’t be more different when it comes to the supernatural; one’s a believer, the other’s a total skeptic. But their playful argument over what’s real sparks an unexpected adventure filled with budding feelings, bizarre encounters, and wild battles that challenge everything they thought they knew about the paranormal.
Dandadan is hands down one of the best action-comedy anime series of the season, in that it is one of the few to excel “greatly” in both aspects. Add the fusion of creepy supernatural creatures and events to the realization that aliens and UFOs are real, plus an amazing OST by the iconic Hip Hop duo, Creepy Nuts. Putting aside its supernatural elements, if you haven’t seen this piece yet, you need to reevaluate your “anime fan” status.
Warning: Don’t get lost in that picture above, the anime itself would throw you off balance.

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most highly acclaimed and the best action and supernatural series ever made. The product of Gege Akutami’s manga and Studio MAPPA’s incredible animation, it is an ongoing anime series that tells the story of a world riddled with curses, cursed spirits, and Jujutsu sorcerers.
One thing you have to watch out for here is the action scenes that stayed true to course from the first season to the second, so much so, expectations are high for a mind-blowing season 3, expected sometime in Winter 2026. What else could be interesting about Jujutsu Kaisen? A lot! And that’s if you take away the fact that it has a great cast of strong and intimidating characters like Satoru Gojo (who, by the way, controls a largely impressive fanbase). It also features a great plot and is easily one of the most interesting Shounen manga and anime series.

When Hiroshima-born mangaka Tite Kubo first dreamed up Bleach, he probably had no idea he was creating a legend, one that would span 74 volumes and capture millions of fans worldwide. What makes Bleach so magnetic isn’t just the sword fights or the stunning art; it’s the universe Kubo built. From the ethereal Soul Society and its noble Shinigami to the mysterious Hueco Mundo filled with Hollows, and the prideful Quincies waging their own spiritual war, every layer feels alive. It’s stylish, emotional, and unapologetically cool, a perfect blend of heart, humor, and high-stakes supernatural drama. Simply put, Bleach isn’t just read or watched, it’s experienced.

Here’s a gem that offers a change of pace from the other action-packed series above. Using a concept similar to but exactly opposite to Death Note’s, this 7-season anime series tells the story of Takashi Natsume, a gentle high school boy who has the gift of seeing yōkai. As an ironic plus, he inherited a Book of Friends from his grandmother, a book that’s been used to subdue countless spirits by making them write their names on it.
The series is more reflective than action-packed, weaving together standalone stories about humans and spirits. Beyond its supernatural premise, it shines as a study of human connection, how understanding and kindness can bridge even the most spiritual divides. Ultimately, it isn’t about exorcising spirits; it’s just a quiet masterpiece about embracing empathy and learning to belong.

Yu Yu Hakusho is an absolute blast to watch: full of energy, heart, and unforgettable moments. It’s not just another action-packed clone or a mindless brawl fest; it’s a series with real depth and charm. Despite spanning over a hundred episodes, it never loses its freshness or appeal. The balance of humor, emotion, and intense battles keeps things exciting from start to finish. Even with its age, it remains one of the most iconic and entertaining Shounen anime ever made. It’s not flawless, but it earns its praise honestly. If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a chance, and you won’t regret it.

Demon Slayer has always been a great choice for all anime newbies, and one of the best anime series of all time, especially with its new movie trilogy being released. It tells the story of young orphans, Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado, fighting their way in a world riddled with demons, one of which massacred their entire family and turned the sister into a demon.
Fate, revenge, and devotion made Tanjiro determined to learn how to eradicate these creatures of the night, but there’s only so much a charcoal seller’s son could do. Demon Slayer is one series with villains that are way stronger than its protagonists, so much so that you’re left wondering if plot armor is enough to keep them alive. But how does the story go? Reading reviews is informative, but seeing the series gives the full experience, which is what you deserve.

Monogatari is… well, gloriously weird, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. You don’t watch Monogatari like other anime; you experience it. It’s witty, poetic, and unapologetically different; almost like an art experiment with dialogue sharper than a samurai blade. Every conversation feels like a riddle, every scene like a painting. The storytelling? Pure genius. It doesn’t just tell you what’s happening; it makes you feel it.
Sure, it’s not beginner-friendly, but once you dive in, you’ll be hooked. Between its layered symbolism, eccentric characters, and endless debates over the “best girl,” this series redefines what anime can be. Take the Monogatari pill, and you’ll either get lost or fall madly in love. Either way, it’s unforgettable.

Coming across a series like Death Note and understanding the genius of Light and L would get you wondering if God really did create mangakas like Tsugumi Ohba, or maybe he’s somewhat like Kyle XY. The intrigue with this series doesn’t only lie in the storyline, but the thrills and psychological games in it.
While Light Yagami might seem like your regular high schooler, he also happens to be one who stumbled upon a mysterious notebook that allows him to kill people simply by writing their names in it. Choosing to use this book to rid the world of criminals and evildoers, what evolves is a complete gem of a cat and dog story; for while L knows Light is the anonymous killer, proving it seemed harder than he thought.

“You can’t just act on instinct and expect things to work out. Anger and frustration - see them clearly, and they become weapons.” – Ajiro Shinpei.
At first glance, Summertime Rendering feels like a chill slice-of-life anime, but oh boy, it’s anything but that. The deeper you go, the wilder it gets, blending mystery, time loops, and supernatural chaos into something absolutely addictive. It adapts the entire manga's 139 chapters in 25 perfect episodes, with no cliffhangers, no waiting for another season. The story is tight, emotional, and mind-bending, with top-tier character arcs and visuals that slap. Shinpei’s journey back home starts simple but turns hauntingly complex. By the end, you will be left amazed, heartbroken, and weirdly fulfilled. A true hidden gem of 2022.
