The personality nuances, emotional depth, and even the evolution of characters largely depend on the vocal performances behind them. Voice actors breathe life into characters, transforming them from mere illustrations into beings that viewers can relate to, empathize with, and care about. This brings us to the heroes behind the iconic voices of the characters in our favorite Shounen anime, Jujutsu Kaisen. Let’s take a look at the persons responsible for the vocal magic in Yuji’s youthful vigor, and Nobara’s high-spirited personality.
Jujutsu Kaisen | The Main Trio
Yuji Itadori | Voiced by Junya Enoki
Junya Enoki is a 3rd class graduate of the Atomic Monkey Voice Actor and Acting Laboratory in 2015. Since then, he has been offering his services as a voice actor in various anime series and even in the Japanese dubs of some other foreign movies since 2010.
While he voiced Tom Holland’s Spiderman in the Japanese dub of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen, he also voiced characters like Suzuki in Haikyu!!, Pannacotta Fugo in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, young Reiner Braun in Attack on Titan’s final season, Senjuro Rengoku in Demon Slayer, and others this list couldn’t possibly contain.
Megumi Fushiguro | Voiced by Yuma Uchida
Yuma is the younger brother of Maaya Uchida and is not only an award-winning voice actor but also a musician, whose songs have been used in the ending theme of some anime. Since he began his career as a voice actor in 2012, Yuma has voiced characters in more than 100 anime. Apart from being the voice of Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuma has also voiced characters like Kazuomi Oga in ReLIFE, Yuuto Shinkai in Yowamushi Pedal, Ginshi Shirazu in Tokyo Ghoul, amongst others.
Nobara Kugisaki | Voiced by Asami Seto
Asami Seto's powerful vocal performance in Jujutsu Kaisen effectively portrayed the bold and fiery nature of Nobara Kugisaki. Seto gave Nobara more dimension by alternating between intense and sensitive; this made Nobara a lovable and sympathetic character whose moods and feelings struck a strong chord with viewers.
Seto has also worked on other anime like Tokyo Ghoul as Akira Mado, Kasane Randall in Scarlet Nexus, Chiyuki in Death Parade, and, recently, Mina Ashiro in Kaiju No. 8. What’s more? She doesn’t only use her skill in anime, as she’s worked on various video games and Japanese dubs of various movies as well.
Jujutsu Kaisen | The Humans
Satoru Gojo | Voiced by Yuichi Nakamura
Yuichi is well known for his works on various anime characters that had one thing in common: a calm and clear voice! As the famous voice actor who voiced Greed in Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Nobutaka Oda in Btooom!, Yuichi is also responsible for Satoru Gojo’s calm and sometimes goofy voice that’s been known to give some relief in troubled times. Since his debut in voice acting in 2001, Yuichi has lent his voice to over a hundred characters in various anime movies, series, and even ONAs.
Suguru Geto | Voiced by Takahiro Sakurai
The voice of Suguru Geto is expertly delivered by Takahiro Sakurai, who infuses the role with a terrifying stillness that embodies the sinister atmosphere Geto brings to Jujutsu Kaisen. His eloquent voice emphasizes Geto's charm and cunning schemes, adding nuance to his portrayal of a cunning adversary and emphasizing his significance and presence in the series. Takahiro has received acclaim for his work in other anime like Detective Conan, Bleach, and D.Gray-man, where he portrayed Takuya Masubuchi, Izuru Kira, and Yu Kanda respectively.
Aoi Todo | Voiced by Subaru Kimura
Born Subaru Samuel Bartsch, Samuel is a German-born rapper and Japanese voice artist well known for voicing Takeshi Goda in Doraemon. Subaru Kimura's vocal performance in Jujutsu Kaisen brilliantly captures the exuberant and energetic nature of Aoi Todo, flawlessly capturing the character's larger-than-life attitude. In the anime, Kimura's voice perfectly captures the combination of Todo's surprising intelligence and raw power, adding to his already humorous but intelligent persona. It also convincingly depicts his strong presence and quirky personality.
Maki Zen’in | Voiced by Mikako Komatsu
Similar to Sayo (Akame ga Kill!) and Lupusregina Beta (Overlord) in her earlier roles, Mikako Komatsu captures the stern and stubborn character of Maki Zen’in in Jujutsu Kaisen. Her performance possesses a subtle emotional range as well as power. Her rendition captures Maki's ferocious character and inner difficulties while highlighting her resiliency and range of emotions.
Panda | Voiced by Tomokazu Seki
The diverse voice performance of Tomokazu Seki in Jujutsu Kaisen brings Panda to life, capturing both the humor and serious nature of his character. His deep voice does more than bring Panda to life; it calls to mind his legendary performances as Gilgamesh in Fate/Stay Night and Domon Kasshu in Mobile Fighter G Gundam.
Toge Inumaki | Voiced by Koki Uchiyama
Even for a character with limited dialogue, Koki Uchiyama's depiction of Toge Inumaki in Jujutsu Kaisen demonstrates his talent as a voice actor. Uchiyama uses subtle voice inflections and tone to portray a depth of emotion and personality despite Toge's limited words.
Yuta Okkotsu | Voiced by Megumi Ogata
Megumi Ogata brings Yuta Okkotsu to life with her performance, capturing both his innocence and how he developed into a powerful sorcerer. Ogata's command of Yuta's multi-faceted evolution is reminiscent of her work voicing Neon Genesis Evangelion's Shinji Ikari and Sailor Moon's Haruka Tenou/Sailor Uranus.
Shoko Ieiri | Voiced by Aya Endo
Shoko Ieiri is portrayed by Aya Endo. She exudes a feeling of composure and maturity, which is appropriate for her job as a doctor. Endo's voice has been used to lend beauty and poise to characters such as Miyuki Takara in Lucky Star and Sheryl Nome in Macross Frontier.
Kento Nanami | Voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda
Kento Nanami is portrayed by Kenjiro Tsuda, who gives a portrayal that is masterfully subtle and captures Nanami’s methodical and no-nonsense approach effectively. The character of Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh! is a good example of how Tsuda's roles often convey a certain lack of warmth
Masamichi Yaga | Voiced by Takaya Kuroda
Takaya Kuroda infuses Masamichi Yaga, the head of the Tokyo Jujutsu High, with a rough yet endearing charm. Famous for his portrayal of Kazuma Kiryu in the Yakuza video game series, Kuroda brings a powerful and nurturing vitality that embodies Yaga's persona and that of every other anime and game character he’s voiced since he stepped onto the voice acting scenery in 1999.
Mai Zen'in | Voiced by Marina Inoue
Marina Inoue portrays Mai Zen'in's complex mix of resentment and vulnerability in Jujutsu Kaisen, imbuing her voice with delicate variations that express Mai's inner struggles and conflicting feelings. Inoue's portrayal brings a unique perspective to Mai's character, adding bits of complexity and making her relatable and flexible. Inoue's impressive range of roles, including Armin Arlert in Attack on Titan and Yoko Littner in Gurren Lagann, showcases her expertise and experience in bringing depth and complexity to her characters.
Riko Amanai | Voiced by Anna Nagase
The fact that Anna Nagase was a teenager when she portrayed Riko Amanai in Jujutsu Kaisen might’ve been a splendid coincidence or intended by the producers, as one could feel the ease with which she delivered Riko. Understandably, Anna isn’t as popular as other voice actors as she just started in 2021, but her roles as Oliver in Bakugan: Armored Alliance and Mahoro in Bucchigiri have earned her some acclaim.
Junpei Yoshino | Voiced by Yoshitaka Yamaya
Junpei Yoshino is portrayed by Yoshitaka Yamaya in a way that captures the character's innocence, fragile nature, and ultimate plunge into evil with amazing depth. Yamaya's emotive voice evokes empathy in the listener by bringing Junpei's emotional journey to life. It's interesting to note that Yamaya and Junpei have similar appearances, which subtly strengthens the bond between performer and character. The way that appearance and acting mesh so well draws viewers even further into Junpei's heartbreaking tale.
Jujutsu Kaisen | The Cursed Spirits
Ryomen Sukuna | Voiced by Junichi Suwabe
Junichi is a pro at lending voice to badass characters in anime and games, as he’s done for characters like Shoei Baro in Bluelock and Masato Ukyo in Solo Leveling. The portrayal of Ryomen Sukuna is quite captivating. His dark, scary voice evokes both terror and wonder, brilliantly capturing Sukuna's ominous and dominant presence.
Suwabe's portrayal combines charm and fear, gives the character depth and elevates him from a mere antagonist to an engaging figure in the narrative. Acclaimed for his performances as Archer in Fate/Stay Night and Aizawa in My Hero Academia, Suwabe gives some of the most recognizable antagonists in anime an impressive depth.
Mahito | Voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki
Mahito is portrayed by Nobunaga Shimazaki in a way that is incredibly captivating and accurately conveys the character's evil charm and cunning. Mahito's charming manner and his vicious cruelty are seamlessly transitioned between by Shimazaki's diverse voice, giving the character an air of unpredictability and trouble. Previous roles by Shimazaki as Yuno in Black Clover and Haruka Nanase in Free! demonstrate his versatility and further establish his ability to bring nuanced characters to life.
Jogo | Voiced by Shigeru Chiba
Chiba captures Jogo's fierce and aggressive nature with his strong, authoritative voice, giving each line an air of force and danger. His performance perfectly conveys the aggressiveness and unpredictable nature of Jogo, underscoring the character's menacing presence. Chiba, who has been in renowned roles such as Yu Yu Hakusho's Kuwabara and One Piece's Buggy, lends decades of experience to Jogo, which makes him a unique antagonist in the series.
Choso | Voiced by Daisuke Namikawa
A masterclass in voice acting, Daisuke Namikawa's depiction of Choso captures the spirit of the character with subtlety and detail. Choso is brought to life by Namikawa's portrayal as a multifaceted character struggling with his identity and sense of place in an unstable world. From his initial stoicism to his times of sensitivity and reflection, Namikawa expertly handles Choso's path, giving each line emotional weight and genuineness. His portrayal of Choso's inner anguish and contradictory feelings gives the character depth and makes the adversary interesting and approachable.
