Each player starts with a hand of six double-sided cards, featuring characters like the Artful Dodger, Bill Sikes, Charley Bates, Fagin, Mr. Brownlow, and Nancy. These cards have both "Gives" and "Takes", meaning that every card that a player gives to another player either gains or loses Luck or Shillings. The opposite side of the card determines whether the player who played the card gains or loses.

To twist fate and advance towards the ultimate goal of Sanctuary at Mr. Brownlow's house, players must collect Luck and Shillings by strategic play. Once a player reaches four of either Luck or Shillings, they advance their Sanctuary Tokens to the next level. The first player to advance all the way to Sanctuary at Mr. Brownlow's house with eight Sanctuary Points is declared the winner.
