"Being weak is nothing to be ashamed of, staying weak is." - Fuegoleon Vermillion (Black Clover)
The question “Who’s the strongest anime character?” might just be one of the most passionately debated in the anime community. And of course, right on cue, some Dragon Ball fan always chimes in with, “But can he beat Goku though?” Classic.
Whether they can beat Goku or not, nothing beats a solid action shonen, watching characters go all out through brute force, cursed energy, chakra, or some wild overpowered technique. You already know you’re in for a good time. In this piece, we’ll be exploring the top strongest anime characters of all time.

In a world where Titans devour humans like candy, Levi Ackerman stands as humanity’s strongest soldier, and he earned that title with no cheat codes, titan powers, or serum. Just pure grit, mobility gear, twin blades, and reflexes that blurs the line between instinct and calculation.
Levi doesn’t flinch, whether it’s a 3-meter Titan or the Beast Titan himself, he strikes first and ends it fast. His real strength doesn’t lie in his skills but his unwavering purpose, and he fights not for glory, but to protect humanity and to honor the comrades he’s lost. In the end, he fulfilled that mission, but barely, as he was left scarred, blind in one eye, and confined to a wheelchair. Nonetheless, he carries no regrets, as the world is finally at peace, for that’s what truly matters.

No doubt, the Baki series is packed with various monstrously built and strong characters, but none comes close to Yujiro Hanma, who was dubbed The Strongest Creature on Earth. He’s ruthless, arrogant, shows zero mercy to the weak, kills without hesitation, and walks away untouched.
Yujiro’s physical strength, speed, and durability defy logic and surpass anything remotely human. His power is the result of freakish genetics (his father was also a monster in his own right), brutal, self-imposed training, and raw, predatory combat instincts. He remains the strongest in the series and we hope someday his son, Baki, will surpass him.

All Might, the No.1 Pro Hero and 8th wielder of the One for All quirk, is known worldwide as the “Symbol of Peace.” He earned that title through his unwavering commitment to saving others, always wearing a smile and putting himself on the line, especially in the fight against the villain All for One.
He went head-on with All for One, not once, but twice, and came out on top, despite the villain having multiple quirks at his disposal. Even though he’s now retired and has passed the torch to Izuku Midoriya, All Might’s legacy remains inspiring.

Meruem is a one-man army with a perfect blend of intellect and brute force. He’s gifted from birth with superhuman strength, speed, durability, and a genius mind that learns and adapts at lightning speed. To top it off, Meruem possesses the ability to absorb other Nen users, gaining their powers and knowledge in the process. He defeated Isaac Netero, the world’s strongest Hunter, and even survived his ultimate move: The Zero Hand, a move that maintains a lasting impact even long after its user is dead.

Muzan is the first and strongest demon to ever exist. Even without witnessing him unleash his full power in battle, Muzan’s reputation screams dominance, as rumors of his strength alone terrify the Demon Slayer Corps, and his mere presence overwhelms even the strongest Hashira. Fans are looking forward to seeing him unleash his powers and prove just how strong he’s believed to be.

Gilgamesh sees himself as the strongest to ever exist, and everyone else as mere mongrels, barely worthy of his attention. Look at him the wrong way, and he’ll rain divine swords on you without hesitation.
He’s a one-man armory, unmatched in versatility and firepower. His Noble Phantasm, Gate of Babylon, opens a treasury of countless legendary weapons, fired with terrifying speed and precision. Then there’s Ea, his ultimate trump card, a weapon that tears through reality itself. Gilgamesh is the person you don't want to challenge, and anyone who foolishly does would be reminded exactly why he’s the king.

From being just an average high schooler to getting dragged into the world of the Shinigami, Ichigo has proven he can handle anything thrown at him. From unlocking his Shikai: Zangetsu, to his Bankai: Tensa Zangetsu, to mastering Hollowfication, tapping into his Fullbring, and later awakening his Quincy powers. He’s gone head-to-head with heavy-hitters like Byakuya, Grimmjow, Ulquiorra, and Aizen, eventually facing off against Yhwach, the god-like Quincy king.

The King of Curses is the perfect mix of arrogant, psychopathic, and sadistic. He’s feared by both curses and sorcerers alike, not just for his strength, but for how much he enjoys using it. Even while sealed inside Yuji, and with only a few fingers recovered, Sukuna is still terrifying, as he’s always been since the Golden Age of Jujutsu, which saw the rise and fall of the strongest sorcerers to ever exist. But he's nowhere near full power yet, and that’s the scary part.

At just 19, Luffy is the youngest Yonko (Emperor of the Sea) with a bounty of 3 Billion Berries. He might not look like much, act dumb must of the time—scratch that, he’s actually dumb— and eats like he won’t live to see the next day. But don’t be fooled. He’s an opponent you don’t want to face.
Luffy has mastered all 3 types of Haki (Conqueror’s, Observation, and Armament), and has awakened his Devil Fruit power, unlocking Gear 5: Sun God Nika. What makes Luffy truly stand out is his relentless spirit and simple, fearless mindset. When he sets his mind on something, not even the sea itself can stop him.

Kaido, the king of the beast pirates is hands down one of the strongest, if not the strongest character in the One Piece universe (yes, even stronger than Luffy). Hailing from the bloodline of the ancient giants, Kaido was born a juggernaut, with strength that could topple mountains. Add that to his mastery of all three Haki types and you’ve got a monster. But the real game-changer is his devil fruit power: The Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon, a mythical Zoan Devil Fruit that transforms him into a massive dragon capable of torching entire islands with a single breath.

Also known as The Ghost of the Uchiha, The Second Sage of Six Paths, The Savior of This World, and The Devil of All Shinobi. Madara is a man of many names, and from these names alone, you can feel his presence, power, and absolute authority.
He mastered the Perfect Susanoo, unlocked the Rinnegan, and singlehandedly defeated the combined might of all five Kage. We could start listing his achievements, and honestly, we’d be here all day. Madara is a living myth in the Naruto universe, and his name will forever echo through every war, battlefield, and legend.

“Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one.” - Satoru Gojo
Gojo stands out as the coolest and strongest sorcerer in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s often laidback and playful, but that's all facade. Even the big bad villains Kenjaku and Mahito knew they couldn’t beat him in a fair fight. Their only option was to seal him away using a special cursed object known as Prison Realm. And even that required months of planning, distractions, and perfect timing. That’s exactly how strong Gojo is.

Ainz is a necromancer-focused wizard who dominates with dark magic. While his build is designed purely for spellcasting, Ainz is also a master of physical combat. What really sets him apart isn’t just raw strength or strong spells, but his mind. Ainz leverages his deep knowledge of the game world YGGDRASIL to craft deadly tactics, create custom magical items, and prepare extensively before any battle.

Saitama really needs no introduction. If you want to be as strong as him, just follow his legendary training routine of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10km run every single day, no breaks, until your hair falls out. Just kidding.
Since One Punch Man leans heavily into parody, Saitama is portrayed as the ultimate overpowered character who never needs to break a sweat. His weapon might just be a punch, but that punch is more than enough to obliterate anything, and anyone that dares to stand in its way.

We all know this list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Goku. He's a fan favorite across generations, and the face of anime power scaling. From his humble beginnings as a Saiyan raised on Earth, Goku’s strength has evolved through countless power-ups: Kaio-Ken, Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan Blue, and now Ultra Instinct, a form that lets him react and move without thinking. To some fans, these forms are enough to solo anyone. To others, not quite. But one thing’s clear; Goku is an absolute monster, relentless, and always ready for the next challenge.

Anos is so OP that he willingly sacrificed himself just to bring peace to the world. His abilities are far from god-tier, as they include magic nullification, teleportation, resurrection, memory manipulation, time control, and that’s just scratching the surface. Even without spells, Anos can overpower most enemies in a straight-up fight.

While Sung Jin-Woo might be the new kid on the block, he’s already earned his place among the strongest, as he dominates the Solo Leveling universe. Before becoming the beast we now know, he was the weakest hunter alive, barely surviving low-tier D-rank raids. But what set him apart was his unwavering dedication. That unshakable willpower caught the attention of the System, granting him a second chance to grow without limits, and the rest is history as you know it. Now, he stands as the Shadow Monarch, a literal walking god.

Yhwach was introduced during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc as the final big bad wolf. He’s the king of Quincy, the founder of the Wandenreich and the son of the Soul King. Yhwach’s powers are far beyond human comprehension. His main ability, The Almighty, lets him see and alter the future itself, making almost any battle pointless. He can steal powers, revive himself, and absorb others, including the Soul King, turning him into a cosmic-level threat. It took the combined power of Kurosaki Ichigo, Uryu Ishida, and Aizen to defeat him.

Beyond raw strength and combat ability, Rimuru Tempest dominates the world of Tensura and this list thanks to two overpowered unique skills. First is Great Sage (which later evolves into Raphael and eventually Ciel), an AI-like entity that lives in his mind, acting as a strategist, advisor, and all-knowing guide. Then there’s Predator (later evolving into Gluttony and Beelzebuth), a skill that lets him absorb, analyze, and replicate the powers and forms of others. These abilities serve as the foundation for him to adapt, evolve and grow into the monster we know today.

Anti-Spiral is the ultimate villain from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It is an emotionless godlike being that sealed away its body to become a universal force of collective consciousness, suppressing civilizations that showed signs of spiral power (evolution, growth, and potential). This thing doesn’t play fair. It fights with reality-warping powers, traps the heroes in infinite multiverses, and shrinks galaxies like toys. It’s a cosmic concept with a god complex.
There is no direct answer to this as strength is measured differently. However top contenders include Son Goku, Saitama, Satoru Gojo, Rimuru Tempest, and Anos Voldigoad.
Strong female anime characters include Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, Charlotte Linlin (Big Mom), Retsu Unohana, Milim Nava, and Mikasa Ackerman.
Goku is undeniably one of the strongest anime characters out there, and a major name in any power-scaling debate. However, he’s not the absolute strongest.
Few characters who could stand head-on with Goku or possibly even surpass him includes Satoru Gojo, Rimuru Tempest, Anos Voldigoad, Anti Spiral, and King Yhwach, just to name a few.
Levi is stronger than Eren in a straight-up fight, if Eren is in his human form. But in a 1v1 against Eren in his Titan form at full power, Levi doesn’t stand a chance.
No, Ichigo isn't stronger than Yhwach on his own. He was only able to defeat him with the crucial help of Uryu Ishida and Aizen.
It’s hard to say for sure who would win. But based on statistics from their techniques, forms, and combat experience, Goku appears to have the upper hand.
