Jamming is a very common issue many face while playing with Gel Blasters. This can be frustrating for those who are just trying to enjoy a game with family and friends, especially if it happens frequently. In this article, we’re discussing reasons why Gel Blasters can jam and ways to fix it.
Reasons Why Gel Blasters Jam
While playing Gel Blasting, the odds of a Gel Blaster getting jammed are always there. You know your Gel Blaster is jammed when the gel balls don’t fire or when the trigger is stuck. Below, we’re breaking down what could be causing your Gel Blaster to jam.
Dead Battery
The most common reason for a Gel Blaster to jam is a dead battery. If the toy gun suddenly stops firing, make sure to check the battery. Each electric gun is powered by batteries that can be replaced or recharged. After charging the battery, try it again and see if it works,
Improper Assembly
Jamming can happen with new guns and sometimes there may be a part inside not assembled correctly. You can always disassemble the gun and reassemble it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Magazine Feeding Issues
If the magazine is low on ammo or not clipped correctly then the gel balls can’t be fed into the gun. First, remove the magazine and see if it’s clean. If it’s dirty, use a soft cloth to remove any dirt. Refill the magazine with the correct sized Orbeez before trying again. If the Gel Blaster still isn’t working, it’s possible the magazine motor is out of order or the spring is faulty.
Check the Gel Balls
If you’re trying new gel balls or playing for the first time and your blaster is jamming, check the quality of the water beads being used for ammunition. Every Orbeez gun manufacturer specifies the size and type of gel balls that pair well with the blaster. Oftentimes, they might not be the right kind or they could have been soaked for too long. The longer they soak, the larger they get. The standard size for Gel Blasters is between 7-8mm, so if they’re too large then they can get stuck.
If you’re reusing gel balls that were stored, double-check their size as well. They can also grow in size after being stored for a while.
Faulty Gearbox
The gearbox of an Orbeez gun is made of gears that are responsible for firing the gel balls. If the parts aren’t lubricated regularly then they’re prone to wear and tear. If your Gel Blaster suddenly jams, open the gearbox and check for stuck or broken parts. Lubricate the gears if you see any of them getting stuck. If you notice any damage, take the blaster to a professional to replace the broken parts.
Clogged Barrels or Hop-Ups
The barrel and hop-ups are parts of the Gel Blaster that need regular cleaning because they tend to accumulate the most dirt and debris. If they aren’t cleaned then parts of the blaster will get stuck and stop shooting. Clean these parts with a soft cloth or use silicone lubricants to keep the parts working smoothly.
Other Common Problems with Gel Blasters
Jamming is the most common problem with Gel Blasters. However, owners may notice a few other odd problems with their toy related to jamming.
A Screeching Sound
Sometimes, when the trigger is pulled, the user may notice a high-pitched screeching noise. This can also result in no gel ball firing. Usually when this happens, that means there might be a gear loose. If the trigger is pulled too aggressively, the gear teeth shear off, resulting in a loose gear. There is an adjustable screw near the grip that can be tightened. However, if the gun is still making this noise after then it might be time to take it to a professional.
Weak Firing
If the gel balls are not grown to the recommended size or aren’t suitable for the blaster then you may notice weak firing. Occasionally, the gel balls may not even fire at all and just dribble out of the barrel. This can happen when the tappet, or return spring, isn’t working properly.
The return spring is meant to compress air inside the blaster to propel the gel balls out of the barrel. When the spring is weak or rusty, it won’t function properly. You can have the spring changed by a professional.
Only Shoots Upside Down
If your Gel Blaster only shoots while upside down, it’s usually because the magazine isn’t filled all the way. Remove it, refill it with Orbeez, and try again.
Final Thoughts on Jammed Gel Blasters
Like every mechanical device, Gel Blasters experience wear and tear over time. It’s common for a malfunction to happen every once in a while, especially if the Gel Blaster is used frequently or not taken care of. If you notice any of the issues right after buying it, then it’s best to return it. But as long as you take care of the blaster by cleaning and lubricating it regularly, it should last you a long time.
