“Which side? I’m on money’s side, of course. There’s no value to something that can’t be bought. You can’t make money out of it, after all.”
- Mei Mei
Being the richest, sexiest, and one of the strongest sorcerers in Jujustu Kaisen is no small feat. If awards are to be given for these categories, only one person deserves it all: Mei Mei! As far as side characters go, Mei Mei has managed to etch her name and presence in the hearts of Jujutsu Kaisen fans, especially with how swiftly she exorcised the Smallpox Deity in Shibuya on October 31st, a feat that would have taken most other sorcerers longer to accomplish.
However, due to limited appearances in the story and the nature of her job as a contract Jujutsu sorcerer, there are a few gaps and facts about Mei Mei that the majority of fans do not know. Here is a comprehensive and in-depth character wiki and analysis on Mei Mei from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Who is Mei Mei?
Mei Mei is one of the supporting characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime series. She is one of the few (if not the only) Jujutsu sorcerer who goes on missions simply for monetary compensation, and she also likes to work alone. She is ranked as a first grade sorcerer and was Satoru and Suguru Geto’s senior during their time as students at Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Mei Mei | History
Not much is known about Mei Mei's background, but it is important to note that she became a Jujutsu sorcerer because of her family's lineage. She always demanded that the school pay her based on the jobs she would do during any given mission since she was a student. This was her way of being compensated for her work, which made her different from the other students. Ui Ui, her younger brother, is her only known family member.
Mei Mei | Appearance
Physical
Mei Mei is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful women in Jujutsu Kaisen. She has a pretty pale face and fairly big ears with blue diamond piercings at the tragus (the outer ear's tongue-like protrusion). She has sharp lilac eyes (dark brown in the manga) with thin blue eyelashes and eyebrows of the same color. She has a pointed nose and wears maroon lipstick.
She has long silvery-blue torso-length hair that she wears in two different ways, depending on whether or not she’s on a job. Whenever she’s on a mission, she wears her hair in two big braids, and one dangles in front of her face, slightly obscuring her vision, with the other hanging behind her head. Otherwise, she lets her hair loose or wears it in a simple braid.
Back in 2006 when she was a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, she wore her hair in a ponytail held at the back with a purple band, with two bangs on both sides of her face, leaving her face visible.
Mei Mei is a tall, curvy, and voluptuous woman with an attractive bust, and fairly wide hips that do well to accentuate her already-established beauty. She also wears a dull purple polish on her fingernails. When walking, she throws her hips to the sides with each stride, and either shuts her eyes or just partly opens them, smirking irrespective of the place or situation.
Outfit
During her student years, Mei Mei wore a black long-sleeved shirt tucked into a long custom-made purple skirt that had six buttons on it. The buttons had the usual spiral drawn in black on them. The skirt, which almost reaches her ankles, is worn over pants which she tucks into her black boots.
While working as a Jujutsu sorcerer, she wears a purple bodysuit, which almost looks like a gown, tucked into her brown boots which end just below her knees.
Mei Mei | Personality
Mei Mei approaches her role as a Jujutsu sorcerer with a high level of professionalism. She frequently emphasizes the financial aspects of her work and approaches her missions and interactions with a business-like mentality.
She is a highly skilled and productive character who consistently pursues the most effective solutions to problems. Her dedication to the highest standards of her field is evident in her meticulous nature and precise attention to detail. She also places a high value on independence in both her personal and professional life. This is evident in her preference for working independently or with minimal assistance.
Mei Mei is a character who exudes a sense of calm and confidence, maintaining her composure in any given circumstance. Although Mei Mei is known for her honesty and kindness, she doesn't shy away from admitting her predisposition towards greed, considering it to be of utmost importance in her life.
She prides herself on her ability to navigate the financial world and is motivated by the pursuit of financial gain and stability. She values her time and expects compensation for her efforts. Mei Mei couldn't care less about allegiances and politics; all she cares about is getting paid for her sorcery skills. She also asserts a lack of interest when it comes to relationships that are not centered around financial gain.
Mei Mei consistently maintains a friendly demeanor, despite her somewhat questionable morals. She has a keen eye for the potential and abilities of her allies, frequently acknowledging their growth and praising them.
Mei Mei | Motivations
“I just can't understand connections that are not based on money. “
- Mei Mei to Satoru Gojo
Mei Mei’s primary motivation is financial gain, as she only takes on missions and focuses on jobs that offer the highest payout. The ease with which she basks in this mercenary attitude distinguishes her from numerous Jujutsu sorcerers who are motivated by duty or a longing to safeguard humanity from curses. But as simple and direct as that may be, it has easily made her (probably) the number one most hated character in the Jujutsu Kaisen anime and manga series. Her monetary inclination could be due to any of the following reasons: debt repayment, supporting her loved ones (notably Ui Ui), or self-sufficiency.
Also, Mei Mei takes great pride in her abilities and as such believes it’s only right that she gets compensated properly. Especially as she went through a great deal of arduous and extensive training to hone her skills and abilities in order to become a Grade One sorcerer. She takes calculated and strategic risks before accepting missions, and strictly abides by the terms of her contracts. She never underperforms or goes beyond, except when a bonus is involved, all in a bid to maximize her chances of success and survival.
Mei Mei | Relationships
Mei Mei is like a Himitsu-bako (Japanese Puzzle Box) as there’s more to her than meets the eye. She is characterized not just by her abilities, but also by her interactions with other characters. These interactions reveal more about her personality combining indifference, professional detachment, and real caring and commitment.
While many have concluded that Mei Mei uses the term “Service Potential” to measure a person’s worth, as it is directly tied to their usefulness to her, she mostly uses this to determine her respect for her opponents or people she doesn’t have any financial or emotional attachment to. While this is true, it isn’t the bane of her interactions. Here’s a careful look into how Mei Mei interacts with other characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Ui Ui
As her only brother and known relative, Mei Mei is highly protective of Ui Ui, displaying a rare example of her loving and nurturing nature. She also serves as his mentor and protector, instructing him in the Jujutsu arts and the ways of the world. Notably, there is a sense of trust and respect between them, but as the series doesn’t exactly delve deep into their personal lives, the nature and depth of their relationship are left open to further interpretation.
Satoru Gojo
Mei Mei acknowledges Satoru Gojo’s tremendous strength and influence, and their chats and interactions demonstrate a mutual recognition of each other’s abilities. They have a pragmatic relationship, with both focusing on their respective tasks without interference from the other. But being the businesswoman that she is, even Satoru would pay her if he needed her services, even if it was as little as a favor.
Kento Nanami
Mei Mei and Nanami are alike in many aspects, as they both handle their duties in a very pragmatic manner, recognizing the risks and rewards and discussing them in terms of efficiency and efficacy. While both are equally perceptive and calculating, Nanami isn’t as money-inclined as Mei Mei.
Other Jujutsu Sorcerers
When relating with other sorcerers, Mei Mei stresses her professional boundaries but is vocal about the value she places on competence and reliability.
Antagonists and Curses
She approaches curses and enemies with a cold and calculated approach. In combat, she keeps her emotions in check and concentrates only on her mission and the best strategy to accomplish it.
Mei Mei | Skills, Weapon, And Techniques
Core Skills
Expert Combat Skills
Mei Mei’s go-to weapon in combat is her battle axe, which she wields in close-quarter fights. With lightning-fast accuracy and relative ease that’s almost unbelievable for an axe of that size, she aims to split her opponents in half with swift and ferocious blows.
Outstanding Technical Intellect
Mei Mei is a skilled Grade 1 sorcerer who possesses extensive combat experience in exorcising curses. She demonstrates exceptional wit and expertise in handling them. Before accepting exorcism missions, and even before encountering missions, she keenly watches her opponents, figuring out their techniques and how they work. Even when trapped in a curse’s domain expansion, she could quickly and easily devise a plan to get out of it and exorcise the curse.
Weapon
Huge Battle Axe
This is a big, pale-colored two-handed cursed axe that Mei Mei uses as her main weapon in battle. The axe has a symbol etched onto its head and a fabric grip on the bottom. The axe is almost as tall as Mei Mei herself and, whenever she isn’t using it, she puts it in a case or gives it to Ui Ui to carry.
Mei Mei | Jujutsu
Kokucho Sojutsu – Black Bird Manipulation
Through this technique, Mei Mei infuses crows with her cursed energy, giving her complete control over them. Using this, Mei Mei can control flocks of crows from a considerable distance, all at once, and even use them to spy on people and places, seeing the target location through their eyes.
Bado Sutoraiku – Bird Strike
This is the true essence of Mei Mei’s Kokucho Sojutsu. Bado Sutoraiku uses a Binding Vow on birds that Mei Mei has imbued with her cursed energy and forces them to commit suicide for exceeding their low amounts of cursed energy. Since these birds have been strengthened by Mei Mei’s cursed energy, they act as projectiles, propelling themselves toward a target or enemy, delivering a powerful blow that can exorcise even a special grade curse in just one strike.
Mei Mei | Symbolism And Themes
Mei Mei’s presence in Jujutsu Kaisen transcends beyond her actions, as she embodies the intricate nature of the Jujutsu world, the fuzzy boundaries between responsibility and self-interest. Looking past these traits, Mei Mei is undoubtedly an epitome of not only staunch professionalism and pragmatism but also great strength and growth. She is someone who strived on her own to hone not only her physical strength and abilities but also her techniques.
She also represents themes of independence, self-reliance, strategic thinking, unflinching courage, and calculated analysis, all of which are admirable traits worth emulating. Lastly, her mercenary path is merely to showcase a normal human’s desire to be recognized for her value and worth. While this is different from the motive that drives other Jujutsu sorcerers, it remains a valid one.
Mei Mei | A Divisive Sorcerer
We aren’t here to come off as the arbiters of what is right or wrong. But, just as we can accept that what drives Yuji Itadori is “his grandfather’s last words”, or that what drives Nobara is “a desire to find an old friend and explore city life” it shouldn’t be a big deal to accept Mei Mei for who she is.
This is in no way an argumentative exposition, even though I know it must’ve ignited some emotions (and/or comments) from you. But in the spirit of the fandom, we’d love to hear your thoughts on Mei Mei, what you think about her personality and all you might like or dislike about her.
